Residual Hauntings (Kitchen)

Edited version of audio from the sound installation To be forever known, installed at the Bronte Parsoange Museum, Howarth, 2011

Residual Hauntings/To be forever known, 2011

Series of three black and white photographic prints, 154 x 234mm, Edition of 5 plus AP/Looped audio installation

These two works were produced for the Brontë Parsonage Museum, Howarth. Residual hauntings saw the artist ‘performing’ domestic rituals and actions performed by the three sisters as described in written records. Captured in long exposure photographs, these simple ghostly vignettes reanimates the now static spaces of the Parsonage.

Accompanying this was an audio installation To be forever known, in which extracts of Charlotte’s letters were read aloud in the Dining Room, and using methods of revealing the resonant harmonies and tones of the architectural spaces, a series of recordings were produced that were played back into the space. Haunting and jarring against the silence that exists, and reinstating the creative energy that once filled air of the house.

First exhibited at the Brontë Parsonage Museum and Neue Gallery, Innsbruck, Austria.
