In a series of three black and white photographs of lavish historic interiors, a woman appears to be at rest. At first glance, they appear to be still images, but gradually the reclining figure–the artist herself—is seen moving very slowly, gently shifting her weight and repeatedly bringing a cup of tea to her mouth and back again in an endless loop. As the films continue any sense of relaxation turns into tension, as it becomes clear she is perpetually trapped with the frame. The work conveys the performance of leisure and privilege associated with these spaces, while also reflecting the entrapment women faced within the confinement of the domestic realm.
