Looking back
Filling absence/Looking back, 2017
Dust wall drawing and digital print, 620 x 800mm
Filling absence was a life size drawing made of the wallpaper surrounding the fireplace, taken from an old photograph of an interior that no longer exists. Painted with dust and ash, the contours of the pattern and the objects it wrapped around are made real again, in a shadowy painted version of this lost space. Shown alongside Looking Back, a full scale photograph of the outline of an mirror left after a fire, the sooty trace a haunting reminder of its presence and what it once played intimate witness to.
Part of the exhibition ‘In and Out of Sight’ at UH Galleries, 2017.
